Why we're selling

Nancy grew up near Milton, and in recent years our whole family has loved becoming part of the community and taking on the very hands-on work of bringing the Jones House back to life.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have owned and cared for this special home, but with our lives now centered in Pennsylvania, it's becoming harder to own the house from a distance.

We plan to list it in September for $275,000, but would love to find the right buyer and negotiate directly before then.

Own a living legacy.

Protected for Generations

The Jones House is protected by a historic preservation easement held by Preservation North Carolina, helping ensure that the craftsmanship and architectural features that make the home so special are preserved for future generations. The home has already undergone an extensive rehabilitation—including modern system upgrades, a renovated kitchen and bathroom, and restoration of its roof, windows and historic details — with the work completed in keeping with recognized historic preservation standards.

Owners can decorate, furnish, maintain, repair, and continue to update the home while respecting its historic character.

Significant changes to important historic features—such as windows, exterior details, additions, or major alterations to historic spaces—may require review before work begins.

When the property is sold, its preservation protections transfer to the new owner. This helps ensure that the character you're buying today will continue to be protected in the future.

The easement includes a right of first refusal for Preservation North Carolina. This provides an additional safeguard when the property changes hands and is intended to protect the house and its preservation—not to discourage a normal sale to its next owner.

The Jones House is proof: its rehabilitation combined restoration of the roof, windows, decorative woodwork and other historic features with upgrades that made the house comfortable and functional for contemporary use.
